Press Release: Renowned Women’s Rights Activist Riley Gaines Announces Support of Drew Johnson

February 7, 2024

Las Vegas, NV – Today, on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, former NCAA swimmer and leading defender of women’s sports Riley Gaines announced her support of Drew Johnson in the race for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

As a swimmer at the University of Kentucky, Gaines was forced to compete against a biological male at the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Furthermore, she was required to share a locker room and fully undress before the male swimmer.

Since then, Gaines has become the leading national voice for defending women in sports. She travels the country speaking and has testified before the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and countless state legislatures.

In announcing her support of Johnson, Gaines stated, “We need more bold, conservative leaders in Congress who aren’t afraid to fight the far-left’s attempts to hijack women’s sports and undo the accomplishments of females in athletics. Drew Johnson has made it very clear that he’ll fight the woke mob and be a leader in protecting the interests of female athletes everywhere. I stand with Drew because he stands with us.”

My opponent, Susie Lee, proudly voted to allow biological males to compete against girls and women. She believes men should be allowed in girls’ locker rooms and encouraged to take awards and scholarships from deserving female athletes, all while putting the safety of girls and women at risk,” Johnson said. “I will support Title IX and stand with the women who have fought for decades to achieve fairness and opportunity in sports.”

Johnson’s campaign is managed by Linnea Saltz, a conference champion NCAA runner who became a leading advocate for the rights of women and girls to compete in sports fairly and safely after facing the prospect of racing against a biological male athlete. Gaines recently recognized Saltz as a pioneer in the fight to protect women’s sports.
