Las Vegas – Drew Johnson, the nationally recognized fiscal watchdog and conservative policy analyst, officially announced his candidacy for Nevada State Treasurer today.
Building upon his strong showing in Nevada’s highly competitive 3rd District in 2024, when he was one of America’s top-performing Republican congressional candidates in a Democrat district, Johnson is motivated to continue his fight for accountable and transparent government in the treasurer’s office.
“Last year, our fight for transparent, accountable government that respects taxpayers’ hard-earned money resonated deeply with Nevadans,” Johnson said. “Our near-victory in one of the nation’s toughest congressional districts demonstrated a powerful demand for accountability, transparency, and integrity— principles I will steadfastly uphold as State Treasurer.”
Johnson’s distinguished 25-year career has been dedicated to promoting fiscal responsibility and protecting taxpayer dollars. He began his career as a tax and budget policy analyst at the American Enterprise Institute and the National Taxpayers Union, before founding and serving as president of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, now the Beacon Center of Tennessee. More recently, he worked as a government watchdog and scholar at the Taxpayers Protection Alliance and National Center for Public Policy Research.
Johnson and his wife, Sarah, later relocated to Nevada, where he has continued his work as a taxpayer advocate, fiscal policy analyst, and champion for liberty, while Sarah became a leading advocate of small business and entrepreneurship in the Silver State.
Throughout his career, Johnson has been credited with saving taxpayers more than $60 billion by exposing waste, fraud, and abuse of tax dollars, and working with lawmakers to make government more efficient.
Just last year, President Donald J. Trump called Johnson “a tremendous America First candidate” and applauded his “incredible record of success and strong support from his community.”
Johnson’s influential investigative reporting has garnered national and international attention. He notably exposed former Vice President Al Gore’s hypocritical home energy consumption, sparking significant debate on environmental accountability, and brought attention to the United Nations’ troubling lack of accountability to the press and the public.
A prolific conservative columnist, Johnson has served as a contributor for Newsmax, Fox News, Townhall, The Washington Times, and The Daily Caller.
“As Nevada State Treasurer, I will vigilantly safeguard taxpayer funds, ensure complete transparency in our financial operations, and advocate tirelessly for economic growth,” Johnson stated.
“Specifically, I plan to expand Nevada’s college savings programs to make higher education – including trade schools and vocational programs – more accessible and affordable for Nevada families. Additionally, I am committed to maintaining and improving Nevada’s AA+ bond rating, savings tax dollars by ensuring lower costs for critical infrastructure projects,” said Johnson.
“I will also fight to make sure all Nevadans have the opportunity to pull themselves out of poverty like I did by promoting financial literacy education in schools and lower-income communities.”
Johnson was raised in a trailer in rural Appalachia by a single mother who worked two jobs to make ends meet. He now resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Sarah. The couple volunteers at animal rescue, homeless outreach, and educational nonprofits in Clark County.
